The MYTO CZ system uses a sophisticated, multi-layered check process to ensure that every vehicle exceeding 3.5 tonnes paid the toll while driving on a toll road.
Because the system is satellite-based (GNSS) via the OBU, you aren't just checked at toll booths, but you are being monitored throughout your entire journey.
While the toll itself is calculated via satellite, the Czech Republic maintains a network of 60+ enforcement gantries across motorways, including:
- Laser Scanning: Sensors determine the vehicle’s dimensions and the exact number of axles.
- OBU Communication: The gantry uses DSRC (Microwave) technology to "ping" your On-Board Unit. It checks if the OBU is active and if the axle count set on the device matches what the lasers just saw.
- High-Speed Cameras: Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) captures the plate and cross-references it with the central database to see if the vehicle is registered.
